Cuba in 1991

Let us start with the pictures from Cuba taken in 1991 by my father. He is an astrophysicist or more precisely solar radiophysicist, and as at one point USSR was a big friend of Cuban people – my father has spent several months there working as a “foreign scientist”.


I’d like to remind that during that time it was not possible just to buy a ticket and to go abroad. The country should have sent you there on purpose. And USSR was sending tons of goods, and equipment to the Cuban people. Engineers, scientists and various specialists were coming as well. For sure not all the specialists were civilians; after all they were “building communism” (and socialism) right near the US.

This Photo-Gallery-blog was created when I’ve found several boxes of 35mm slides that my parents have shot in between 1979 and 1993. On these slides I’ve found Cuba and Moscow, Soviet Central Asia and Europe. Some of the places are now very hard to reach and some have completely changed so to my mind these slides found at the “entresol” (almost a mystic place in many apartments in Russia) can be of certain interest. Most likely I will publish pictures in series (or galleries) and probably almost no personal pictures will be published. Also I’ll try to post a corresponding record in the Blog in order to give you a feeling of that time.
